Privacy Policy
This privacy policy governs your use of the ADVANCING RESEARCH BEST PRACTICES FOR CHWS AND PROMOTORAS (“Application”) on an internet browser. The Application was created by The University of Michigan. The Application includes information and learning courses meant to equip Community Health Workers and Promotoras with the skills and knowledge to support research, making a positive impact on their communities.
1. Information We Collect
We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide when you register for the online course and/or download facilitator resources.
The personal information we may collect during registration includes:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Email Address
- Organization Name
- State
- Country
- Title/Role
- Whether you are part of a Research Network
- For resource downloads: How do you plan to use the training materials.
Registration with us is optional. However, please keep in mind that you may not be able to use some of the features offered by the Application unless you register with us. Registration with us is mandatory to be able to use the basic features of the Application. When you register with us and use the Application, you generally provide: (a) your name, email address, password and other registration information; (b) information you provide us when you contact us for help; (c) information you enter into our system when using the Application, such as contact information and project management information. We may also use the information you provided us to contact you from time to time to provide you with important information, required notices and updates.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information you provide to:
- Facilitate your access to the online course and related materials.
- Respond to inquiries and provide support.
- Support efforts related to the course, including collecting data for analysis.
- Improve our offerings and content based on user feedback and participation.
While the Application and course itself is free, data collection of participation helps us analyze trends and improve future courses and materials. We do not use your data for marketing purposes, nor do we track or collect information through cookies or similar technologies.
3. Sharing of Information
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties. We may share your information with third parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy statement.
We may disclose User Provided Information and Automatically Collected Information: (a) as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process; (b) when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request; (c) with our trusted services providers who work on our behalf, do not have an independent use of the information we disclose to them, and have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this privacy statement; (d) As part of assessment of the program, where anonymized or aggregated data may be shared with partners. Any data shared for assessment purposes will not contain personally identifiable information unless explicitly stated.
If the Application is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our website of any change in ownership or uses of this information, as well as any choices you may have regarding this information.
4. Data Security
We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. We provide physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information we process and maintain. For example, we limit access to this information to authorized employees and contractors who need to know that information to operate, develop or improve our Application. Please be aware that, although we endeavor to provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access and review the personal information we hold about you.
- Request corrections to your information if it is inaccurate.
- Request deletion of your information, subject to legal or operational requirements.

6. Data Retention
We will retain User Provided Information for as long as you use the Application and for a reasonable time thereafter. If you’d like us to delete User Provided Information that you have provided via the Application, please contact us at CHWresearchtraining@umich.edu and we will respond in a reasonable time. Please note that some or all of the User Provided Information may be required for the Application to function properly, and we may be required to retain certain information by law.
7. Children’s Privacy
Our course and materials are not directed toward children or people under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children or people under 18. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without their consent, he or she should contact us at, please contact us at CHWresearchtraining@umich.edu. We will delete such information from our files within a reasonable time.
8. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. We will notify you of any changes to our Privacy Policy by posting the new Privacy Policy here https://chwresearchtraining.org/privacy-policy You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes.
9. Consent
By using the Services, you are consenting to our processing of User Provided Information and Automatically Collected Information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us. "Processing,” means using cookies on a computer/hand held device or using or touching information in any way, including, but not limited to, collecting, storing, deleting, using, combining and disclosing information, all of which activities will take place in the United States. If you reside outside the U.S. your information will be transferred to the U.S. and processed and stored there under U.S. privacy standards. By using the Application and providing information to us, you consent to such transfer to, and processing in, the U.S.
